Opening an account

Who can open an account?
To open an e-SAVER account, you have to be resident in the UK for tax purposes. You also must be over the age of 16 and have a UK bank account.

How do I apply?
To apply for an e-SAVER, click Apply Now. The application form is completed online and if you have all your details to hand, it should only take around 5 minutes.

Can I open a joint account?
No. An e-SAVER account can only be opened in single names.

Can I open an account on behalf of someone else?
No. You can only open an account in your own name. This account cannot be operated as a trustee account.

How long does the account opening process take?
As long as you have all of your details to hand, the initial application process should take about 5 minutes. You will then need to send a payment for your first opening deposit, along with any required identification (if requested). Once we have received your investment, your account will be ready to use after payment has cleared – You must send your payment to us within 30 days of submitting your application, otherwise we will delete your application and your details will be removed from the system.

What happens if I’m asked to provide identification?
The majority of applicants will not need to provide identification, as electronic checks via credit reference agencies will be undertaken during the application process. In some cases, however, we will need to ask for proof of name and address. If this is the case, you will be informed at the end of the apply process if identification is required. Once checked, all identification will be returned to you.

Why do I have to have a UK current account to open an e-SAVER?
You need a UK current account to move money in and out of your e-SAVER account. In addition, to increase security and help prevent money laundering and identity fraud, we will use your bank account details provided during the application process as a further check on your identity.

Can I use the branch to open my account?
No – the esaver account can only be opened online

What is the minimum balance that has to be kept in the account at all times?
The minimum amount that you can keep in the account at any one time is £1

How do I access the terms and conditions?
The terms and conditions can be found on this website. You are required to read and confirm that you accept the terms and conditions during the account opening process. You can access the terms and conditions now by clicking here. If we make any changes to the terms and conditions, we will inform you via secure message.

How do I request information about other accounts and services?
During the application process, you will be asked if you would like to receive information about special offers and new products and services, along with how you would like us to contact you. You can also request this through the ‘Managing my Account’ section of the website. If there is a specific account or service that you would like more information on today, please contact us by phoning 0845 1307 630.
