Principality shows its support for Financial Capability Week
Colleagues went the extra mile this week – quite literally – by providing financial education lessons to more than 1,000 Welsh primary school children, in more than 40 classes, across the length and breadth of the country, in support of Financial Capability Week.
This annual education and awareness initiative aims to celebrate and showcase the work that is currently taking place to improve financial capability and wellbeing across the UK, in an effort to get more people talking about money.
Following a report from the Money Advice Service Cymru (MASC) concerning the financial capability of young people in Wales (aged 4 – 17) it was found that only 35% of those surveyed had learned money management skills at school. These statistics were well below the UK average and as a result Principality was approached to work in collaboration with MASC in order to equip children across Wales with information on how to effectively manage their own finances in the future.
The report was launched at Principality Stadium earlier this week, with Julie-Ann Haines speaking of the importance of awareness weeks such as this:
