Pupils in Birchgrove on target after fire thanks to Principality
Wales’ largest building society is helping pupils at a primary school in Cardiff stay on target after a fire damaged their sports equipment.
Principality Building Society provided Birchgrove Primary School with a pair of football goals after parts of the school were damaged by fire last year.
The blaze destroyed the school’s store of sports equipment and caused damage to a special needs classroom, which meant specialist equipment and resources prepared by teachers for specific pupils’ needs were destroyed.
Jane Eyre, Principality Building Society’s Birchgrove branch manager, said: “At Principality we are proud to be close to our local communities. We heard about the school’s plight and we wanted to help the children in some way.
“Sport is such a good way to bring people together and also encourage a healthy lifestyle so we decided to purchase a set of goals so that the children can once again play football at the school.”
Sarah Morgan, head teacher at Birchgrove Primary School, said: “The fire caused a lot of damage to our shed and we needed support from the local community to replace our old equipment. We are extremely grateful to Principality Building Society for its kind donation; the children are absolutely delighted with their new football goals."
