Principality makes two appointments to its Board
Principality Building Society has strengthened its Board with the key appointments of David Rigney, the Chairman of BACS Payment Schemes Limited and Sally Jones-Evans, a former Chief Operating Officer of Group HR at Lloyds Banking Group.
Sally joins Wales’ largest building society as a non-executive director after 30 years’ experience at Lloyds Banking Group, latterly working as Chief Operating Officer of Group HR. Her previous roles also include HR Director of Group Operations, Director of Credit Operations and Managing Director of Direct Banking at Lloyds.
Sally currently sits on the Welsh Government Financial & Professional Services Sector Advisory Panel, which aims to encourage more inward investment of financial and professional services jobs to Wales and is a non-executive director of Welsh Athletics.
Cardiff born and educated, Sally lived in the Vale of Glamorgan until 10 years ago when she and husband Alun relocated to Wiltshire.
Sally said: “Principality is in a strong financial position, having grown its assets to more than £7billion and opening its 71st outlet in Wales and the borders. It has a trusted brand and an unrivalled commitment to supporting social and community life in Wales. I am very excited about joining the Principality Board and hope that my experience and skills will help to grow this business even further.”
David Rigney, who is the current Chairman of BACS Payment Schemes Limited and a former Group Operations Director at Nationwide Building Society, also joins Principality as a non-executive director.
He brings more than 20 years’ experience in finance related roles after a range of previous appointments including HR Director and Central Retail Operations Director at Nationwide.
David, who is from Bristol, also sits on the Board of Elexon, a subsidiary of National Grid plc, as senior independent and non-executive director and chair of its audit committee, whilst also serving as non-executive director at Sport Resolutions.
David said: “Coming from Nationwide, the largest building society in the world, I know the challenges that building societies face but I also know the opportunities that will help the Society to grow. I hope I will be able to use my own experience to play an important role in the Society’s strategy and the work it does for Members and the wider community.”
Sally and David come onto the Principality board after former Group Chief Operating Officer Guy Thomas and non-executive director Langley Davies retired from the Board last year.
Chairman of Principality Building Society, Laurie Adams, said: “I am delighted to welcome Sally and David to our Board. As a mutual, the customer and the communities around us are at the heart of our business and this means understanding, anticipating and delivering their needs. The needs of our customers, and the market in which we operate, are constantly changing and we need to be able respond to ensure we maintain loyalty and keep delivering the kind of service that our customers expect.
“Sally and David bring a wealth of retail banking experience with them, which will help us to do this, whilst bringing in new perspectives to compliment the skills of our existing Board members.”
