Only Boys Aloud coming to a town near you

Following the news at the end of last year about ground-breaking male youth choir Only Boys Aloud’s new initiative reaching from Holyhead to Wrexham – we are now announcing details of rehearsal venues and times. It’s really happening!

Since its formation 5 years ago Only Boys Aloud has offered once-in-a-lifetime opportunities to hundreds of boys across South Wales to perform on platforms large and small across the UK, as well as numerous TV appearances and recordings. Now OBA is arriving in North Wales for a new pilot project, extending those opportunities to boys aged 13-19 from across the region.

Rehearsals for new choirs in Holyhead, Caernarfon, Rhyl and Wrexham will start in April and culminate with performances at key events in the area in September and October 2015. Any boy aged 13-19 is welcome, regardless of experience. There are no auditions and no fees for taking part. Our message is - just come along and give it a try!

Starting from Monday 20th April, rehearsal venues and times are:

Wrexham:  Bamford Suite, Wrexham Racecourse Stadium
Tuesdays 6.30 – 8.30
Rhyl: Rhyl Pavilion Theatre Mondays 6.30 – 8.30
Caernarfon: Caernarfon Rugby Club  Mondays 6.30 – 8.30
Holyhead: Holyhead Football Club Tuesdays 6.30 – 8.30

If you can’t make the first rehearsal, it doesn’t matter. Come along when you can.

OBA North Wales Project Manager Eleri Watkins said: This is a really wonderful opportunity for the boys of North Wales, which will change their lives and broaden their horizons. We have found a wonderful team of captains who will lead the local rehearsals, which include Nia Wyn Jones, Mari Pritchard, Jenny Pearson, Andrew Thomas, Huw Llywelyn and myself. The team can’t wait to get started on the project and are really looking forward to making it a huge success in North Wales!”

This pilot project will be launched in style on Friday 17th April with an event at Bounce Below in Blaenau Ffestiniog. Led by Aloud’s Artistic Director Tim Rhys-Evans and starring some local boys – a touch of OBA magic in a unique location will mark the start of the adventure…
