Llanishen High School lifts the cup in style
A Cardiff school has lifted the WSRU Senior Cup in style thanks to Principality Building Society.
The Under 18s squad at Llanishen High School beat Ysgol Gyfun y Strade from Llanelli, 17-11, at the WSRU Senior Cup at the Millennium Stadium in new shirts sponsored by Wales’ largest building society.
Principality has been working with Llanishen High School for a couple of years as part of its community engagement programme. It also runs a reading scheme with the school and has previously provided shirts for the school’s rugby team.
Sue Richards, Principality Building Society’s Llanishen branch manager, said: “Principality is proud to be at the heart of communities across Wales and the borders supporting grass roots sport throughout the country and it’s brilliant to be able to support these youngsters who could progress to become the big sporting stars of the future.
“We have a close relationship with Llanishen High School and we were delighted that we could help them by providing the shirts for their special day. It was a fantastic game and they really did themselves proud.”
It was the second time in a row that Llanishen has won the Cup.
Terry Charles from Llanishen High School, said: “It was an amazing achievement for the team to win its second Cup in consecutive years and they were thrilled to have performed so well in front of their friends and family at such an iconic venue.
“We are extremely grateful for all the support we have had from Principality, not just the shirts, but the messages of support from them and some of the staff even turning up to watch the game. They provided a huge boost for us and we look forward to building on this successful partnership in the future.”
