Principality scoops two national awards

Principality Building Society has scooped two national awards for its work in Welsh communities.

Wales’ largest building society won the Corporate Social Responsibility and Community Services – Large Lenders awards at the Mortgage Finance Gazette Awards 2015 for its community efforts and sponsorship in Wales.

The Community Services award was won in recognition of the Society’s work in its communities across Wales and the borders.  This includes making a positive difference with local sponsorships, fundraising for its Charity of the Year, MS Society Cymru, educational engagement and, increasingly, staff being given time off for volunteering throughout Wales.

The Corporate Social Responsibility award was won for Principality’s continued support for Only Boys Aloud, a choir designed to encourage 14-19 year old young men in South Wales to effect some positive change in their lives.

Since the creation of Only Boys Aloud (OBA) in 2010 it has been helping young men already battling with low self-esteem, often combined with little opportunity and disadvantaged backgrounds to engage with the great Welsh choral tradition in a fresh way and foster and encourage an ethos of aspiration within the teenage boys of the Welsh valleys. With Principality’s support OBA has been able to enhance the lives of dozens of individuals in their local communities through a range of choirs in south Wales.

Commenting on the award wins, Hannah Poulton, Head of Multi-Channel Communication at Principality Building Society, said: “We are proud to be at the heart of the communities in which we live and work in Wales. As a business and as individuals we are constantly striving to make a positive impact on those communities.

“We are delighted to have won two awards for our work in the community, which is testament to the fantastic efforts of our staff and the support that we have had from our Members. This year we have been able to support hundreds of good causes throughout Wales and the borders and receiving these awards inspires us to continue and increase that support further next year.”

This comes just weeks after Principality won a Gold Award at this year’s CIPR Cymru Wales PRide Awards in the Integrated Campaign category and Silver in the Community Relations category in recognition of its Community Vote campaign, which offered local causes across Wales the chance to win £5,000 earlier this year.
