Athletics team sprint for success thanks to building society donation

An athletics team from a Llanelli school will be racing for the finish line in style thanks to new kits donated by Principality Building Society.

Pupils from Ysgol y Strade were presented with over 80 new athletic vests from Principality’s Llanelli branch. Ysgol y Strade and Wales’ largest building society are linked through the Business Class programme, a Business in the Community scheme which aims to develop business skills in young people.

As well as providing the budding athletics stars with fresh kits, Principality colleagues have spent time with Ysgol y Strade students mentoring them on financial education and key business skills to help them in life beyond school.

Handing over the new kits to the school pupils, James Harper, Corporate Social Responsibility Manager at Principality said: “We are extremely proud to see the Principality Building Society name on the kits of a school that holds sporting activity in such a high position. They continue to set the highest standards on and off the field, and through our first year of Business Class we have been able to get to know the school community and deliver a number of activities to help.

“The partnership is getting stronger each month and that’s a credit to both the pupils and teaching staff. There’s another two academic years still to come and we are all really excited to build upon the partnership even further.”

Pupils at the school have also benefitted from Principality’s partnership with the Welsh Rugby Union, resulting in many students winning the chance to attend matches held at Principality Stadium and take a tour of the home of Welsh rugby itself.

Dan Hughes, head of business at Ysgol y Strade said: “Our athletics team are raring to go now they’ve got a brand new kit to train and compete in. It’s given them a huge boost and we’re really grateful to Principality for its support as always. We’re looking forward to seeing what the next two years of the Business Class partnership brings!”
