Principality’s Bridgend branch celebrates 50 years in the community
Principality Building Society’s branch at the heart of Bridgend’s town centre is celebrating its 50th anniversary since it first opened its doors to customers.
The branch officially opened at 28 Caroline Street in July 1968 and has been serving the local community as Wales’ largest building society ever since.
To celebrate the special occasion, staff greeted Members who came in to branch over the weekend with birthday cake and a glass of fizz, while male youth choir Only Boys Aloud entertained guests.
Steve Hughes, Chief Executive of Principality Building Society, said: “The 50th anniversary of our Bridgend branch marks Principality’s commitment to the high street and it remains an important part of what we offer our members in terms of service and choice. We need our Members to continue to use us, recommend us and help our branches and the communities they represent prosper.
“Principality has always believed in trusted, face-to-face service, allowing us to get to know our loyal customers. From those who have been with us for 50 years, to those who opened an account today. We’ve got fantastic Members in Bridgend who we look forward to seeing come into the branch regularly. Here’s to the next 50 years.” Principality currently serves almost 11,000 Members in Bridgend and more than 500,000 across Wales and England. Councillor John McCarthy, Mayor of Bridgend County Borough, added: “The branch has been a familiar sight in Bridgend town centre for 50 years, and I was delighted to attend this milestone anniversary event.
“I wish them every success as they continue to serve customers throughout Bridgend County Borough.”
