Llanelli footballers shoot for success with fresh kits from building society

A school in Llanelli is hoping for success on the football pitch thanks to new kits donated to them by Principality Building Society.

Pupils from Ysgol y Strade were presented with 15 new jerseys, shorts and pairs of socks from Principality’s Llanelli branch. Ysgol y Strade and Wales’ largest building society have forged strong links through the Business

Class programme, a Business in the Community scheme which aims to develop business skills in young people.

As well as providing the future Bales of Llanelli with their fresh kits, Principality colleagues from the region have spent time with Ysgol y Strade students mentoring them on financial education and key business skills to help them in life beyond school. This has included everything from financial education workshops teaching the pupils the importance of savings and how to effectively manage their money, to practicing interview techniques.

Ysgol y Strade’s football team were delivered the new kits by the Society’s Llanelli branch manager Jeremy Evans. He said: “We’re really proud of our partnership with Ysgol y Strade and the range of financial education lessons we’ve been able to hold at the school for the benefit of the pupils now and in their future.

“Strade thrives on its sporting activities so its fantastic to give our support to its football team to start the academic year with new kits and set them up for a good season ahead.”

The Business Class scheme runs for three academic years in total – of which Principality and Ysgol y Strade are now in their second year – and has already seen the building society donate new rugby and athletics kits to the school.

Daniel Hughes, head of business at Ysgol y Strade said: “Our football team is so excited to get onto the pitch in their new kit, giving them a big boost for the year ahead. Principality’s support for our sporting teams and through its financial education work is hugely appreciated as ever and we’re looking forward to growing our partnership further as the programme continues.”
