A-once-in-a-lifetime experience for father and son rugby fans at Principality Stadium

A grandmother from Swansea gave her son-in-law and grandson a weekend to remember, after gifting them her pair of prize draw tickets to Wales’ Grand Slam game against Ireland.

Alyson Hamer, 67, won a Wales v Ireland match-day ball signed by the team captains, and tickets to the sold-out game, as part of an exclusive competition open to Principality Building Society’s Reward Members.

The prize also included a-once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to walk onto the pitch at the end of the game, and to meet Wales captain Alun Wyn Jones.

The prize draw was the latest exclusive competition open to Principality Members who had signed up to take advantage of the ‘Member Rewards’ reward scheme open to them. 
Rugby lover, Alyson, gifted the tickets to her grandson Liam, 22, an automotive paint sprayer, and her son-in-law James, 47, who is a senior architectural technician, to the big game as she knew they would love the experience. 

James and Liam saw Wales win their twelfth Grand Slam, in a thrilling 25-7 victory over Ireland. 

James said: “We’re both huge Six Nations followers, so to be given the chance to watch the Grand Slam game in the Principality Stadium with its electric atmosphere was utterly unbelievable. It was a nail-biting game and we are both thrilled that we could see Wales win the Grand Slam against Ireland.”

Julie-Ann Haines, Chief Customer Officer at Principality Building Society said: “Wales is a nation full of proud rugby supporters and we know that friendships are founded on a shared love of the sport. We are thrilled to be able to give tickets away to huge events at Principality Stadium to our Members. We’re glad that even though Alyson wasn’t able to attend the game, that her family could experience the Wales winning the Grand Slam.”

Wales’ Grand Slam victory also means Principality Building Society will donate £50,000 to be split evenly between its two charity partners Alzheimer’s Society Cymru and Teenage Cancer Trust Cymru. The Society agreed to donate £10k for every Wales victory.
