Meet the Hereford Team
Meet the team
This month we would like you to meet Sarah Caton, Branch Manager, Hereford
Name: Sarah Caton
Role: Branch Manager
How long have you worked at Principality?
7 months now, started end of September 2020
What training did you undertake in the preparation for your new role?
As I am completely new to the financial industry my training was full on learning regulations, processes, procedures, shadowing another manager and meeting lots of other managers virtually for training, as well as learning all about the fantastic values and strategies we have here.
What does your role entail?
Opening a brand new branch, in the midst of a pandemic and being mainly open during lockdown has meant that no two days are the same and we are being reactive to the environment and what we can do. Fundamentally my role is to lead my fantastic team in delivering a stand out experience to our members old and new whilst ensuring we are doing the right thing first time and delivering the vision of Principality in Hereford. As well as supporting and encouraging my teams development.
What’s your background? Where have you worked before?
I have a long background in retail management, having worked my way up at Marks and Spencer to management and then moved to Monsoon Accessorize where I was a Branch Manager and then a Cluster Manager, looking after 10 stores and sometimes the Region which was 45 stores.
What do you enjoy most about working at Principality so far?
The amazing support network we have here, everyone really wants to help each other to make sure we do the right thing for our members, also how our values are what we truly live by.
When you are not in branch– what do you like to do?
I have a crazy 4 year old who keeps me busy, so love spending my time with her and my partner Dan, in the garden, on walks and when we can visiting friends and family! When I can I really enjoy meeting up with my friends and putting the world to rights over some good food and drinks.
What is your favourite thing about Hereford?
I have lived here all my life, I love how all my friends and family are close by so can see them often. The independent businesses here are amazing too, from restaurants and bars to shops they offer something really different and always a fab experience. Also what a community spirit there is, there are a couple of amazing Facebook groups helping others everyday with things such as clothing, furniture through to raising money through recycling ! Makes me so proud.
How have you and the team helped in the local community?
We have been limited to what we can do due to the pandemic, however we donated some selection boxes to the local food bank before Christmas and we have just dropped off a load of food we collected in branch there today too. We have chosen a local secondary school to support putting 40 children through a financial qualification, and some other schools to make a donation of equipment too when we can. We have also sponsored a local women’s football team with a full kit! As a branch we are currently taking part in the 2800 challenge for the teenage cancer trust, doing 100 squats, sit ups, start jumps etc. each a day every day! We hope to do more when we can and are already thinking about what sustainable initiatives we can implement to make a difference.
Principality. Where home matters.
