Wales international faces most memorable interview yet ahead of South Africa clash
A Wales international rugby star experienced an interview to remember ahead of the clash against South Africa, answering questions on everything from his hidden talents to the smelliest feet in the changing rooms.
Rob Evans, Wales and Scarlets prop, was interviewed by eight-year-old Ollie Price after he won Principality Building Society’s social media competition in honour of the Wales matches this November. The competition by Wales’ largest building society called for parents to send in pictures of their children holding up the one question they would like to ask a Wales international rugby star. Ollie wanted to ask how it feels to stand on the pitch of Principality Stadium for the first time and hear the national anthem, and he got the chance to do just that when Rob Evans surprised him at his home in New Hedges, Tenby.
Ollie, who has recently started playing rugby himself and supported Wales for as long as he can remember, said: “I can’t believe I’ve just interviewed a real Wales player. It was really exciting to meet Rob, ask lots of questions and find out some of the team’s hidden secrets. I can’t wait to tell my friends about it. Thank you Principality.”
Ollie grilled Rob Evans on the craziest celebration he’s ever seen, what he loves doing when he’s not playing rugby and what job he would have if he wasn’t a professional rugby player.
Principality Building Society also surprised Ollie and his family with four tickets to see Wales take on South Africa at Principality Stadium, which will be Ollie’s first time watching Wales play.
Evans said: “It’s always an honour to see how passionate Welsh rugby fans are in their support of the team, especially youngsters like Ollie. It was a great interview and it was certainly different to our usual pre-match interviews as we don't often get asked about smelly feet! The experience has been unique and certainly one I won’t forget easily.”
Julie-Ann Haines, Chief Customer Officer at Principality Building Society said: “It’s always special to see the delight of a young fan meeting one of their sporting heroes, especially when it involves a proper conversation and fun afternoon in their own home. As big Wales fans ourselves, we’re really proud of the fact that we can provide our Members and families across Wales with great experiences like these.”
