Thank you for raising £1 million for our charity partners
Since 2014, thanks to your help, seven different charities across Wales have been supported as part of Principality’s charity partnerships. Each charity is making a huge difference to communities in Wales, from Teenage Cancer Trust Cymru providing specialist support to young people with cancer, to Alzheimer’s Society Cymru who ensure support is only a call away for those living with dementia and their carers. Every year Principality colleagues have been dedicated to fundraising for our charity partners, including taking part in cake sales, treks, runs, fitness and cycle challenges.
Whether you’ve supported by donating in your local branch, or sponsored a Principality colleague who has taken on a fundraising challenge, we’d like to say thanks a million.
Our charity partnerships through the years
Since 2014 we've got to support some wonderful charity partners and fundraised over £1 million. Every penny of that has been invested into Welsh communities.
- 2019 - 2021
- 2016 - 2018
So far we've have raised:
- £157,000 in 2019
- £152,000 in 2020
Teenage Cancer Trust Cymru and Alzheimer’s Society Cymru
In 2019 we took on two new partnerships - with Teenage Cancer Trust (TCT) and Alzheimer’s Society Cymru.
In 2019 we introduced the Home Advantage Savings Bond which involved a £10,000 donation for every Welsh rugby win in the 2019 Six Nations Championship. Wales did indeed win the Grand Slam that year and a £50,000 donation was made.
The funds raised have been invested in Alzheimer’s Society’s Dementia Connect support service in Wales, which ensures support is only a click or call away for people living with dementia, their carers and families. In collaboration with Teenage Cancer Trust, we are working towards funding two out reach nurses, so young people across Wales can access treatment and support in their community. Our funding has also supported the Teenage Cancer Trust’s unit at the University Hospital of Wales.
How much we've raised
During these partnerships we raised over £504,000 which was equally shared amongst the 3. We raised:
- £150,000 in 2016
- £134,000 in 2017
- £220,000 in 2018
Cancer Research Wales, Llamau and the School of Hard Knocks (SOHK)
In 2016 we took on our first multiple charities over multiple years partnerships with Cancer Research Wales, Llamau and the School of Hard Knocks (SOHK). We also introduced our charity matching promise, with every £1 raised getting matched.
How did these donations help?
- With Cancer Research Wales this funding contributed to 4 research grants (between 2016-18) at Cardiff University and Bangor University. Our support contributed approx 8% of the research grant allocations made between 2016-18.
- With Llamau our funding was directed towards their Learning for Life Centres which provided training and qualification opportunities for young people, and helped towards their vision of ending youth homelessness. 561 young people got support and 1027 qualifications were gained.
- We helped SOHK expand their work into Wales and during our 3 years of support 214 school pupils got help and 97 unemployed adults took part in rugby and employability courses.
- Over £90,000
In 2015 we partnered with Mind Cymru. This partnership focused on contributing to improving mental health. As part of this partnership it also kick started an ongoing approach to mental wellbeing for our employees - which involved signing the Time to Change Pledge, supporting Time to Talk Days, training colleagues to be Mental Health First Aiders and lots more.
- over £86,000
In 2014 we supported the MS Society and their services to help people with MS across Wales.
