Principality wins award for impact of volunteering work

Principality Building Society has been awarded the Volunteering Impact award by Business in the Community, for its outstanding commitment to educating young people across Wales.

In the past 18 months, Wales’ largest building society has impacted on over 10,000 young people in Wales by teaching financial education to schools.

A key milestone of the Society’s volunteering work was seen during Talk Money Week 2018, where colleagues from across 35 branches visited primary schools to deliver financial education lessons. Commissioned by the Society, Laura Wall’s storybook ‘Goose’s Cake Bake’ was read to over 41 classes and donated to over 2,000 students; which taught entrepreneurship, decision making and money management skills.

Steve Hughes, Chief Executive Officer, Principality Building Society said:

“We have a role to play in supporting our hard working schools in teaching children and young people about finances. In the past 18 months, our colleagues delivered financial education workshops to benefit 10,000 young people. This outstanding effort makes me immensely proud of the work of our colleagues - and I’m sure our Members feel the same."

“Principality colleagues see helping their local schools as an important way of immersing themselves in their communities. It’s what we stand for – helping people prosper at every stage of their lives, across all generations.”

Business in the Community Director Matt Appleby said:

“The Wales Responsible Business Awards recognise companies that make a positive difference – socially, environmentally and educationally – and reward those with a clear social purpose at heart.  We are united in a belief that business can improve lives and create a healthier society – and our winners, who fill us with optimism for the future, are exemplars of responsible business."

“Congratulations, Principality Building Society, on your committed responsible business practice – and for being the best of the best. We look forward to continue working with you over the coming year.”
