Llantrisant rugby club scored one-off training day prize win at Principality Stadium

Llantrisant RFC was chosen from more than 2,700 entries to win a once in a lifetime training day at the home of Welsh rugby, thanks to Principality Building Society.

The Llantrisant club took on the ultimate ‘rugby reunion’ training experience at Principality Stadium on Sunday 20th March as part of a competition run by Wales’ largest building society.

The exclusive training day, attended by 50 of the club’s members, saw the players put through their paces trained by five WRU experienced community coaches, whilst Welsh Rugby Union internationals Rhys Priestland and Hannah Jones supported them in running the session.

Alun David, Committee Member at Llantrisant RFC, said: “As a grassroots club, we often rely on the support of local people and organisations to help us at difficult times, even more so these last two years, and we’re so grateful for the support of Principality. We’re currently without a pitch we can train on full-time so the chance to train at the home of Welsh rugby was a dream come true, we had the day of a lifetime.” 

Wales’ top try-scorer, Shane Williams, shares a special memory from his last time playing on the pitch. Shane said: “I’ve had so many amazing memories on the field at Principality Stadium, and one that sticks out is scoring my final try for Wales against Australia on my final touch of a ball in a Welsh rugby jersey and having my children on the field to help me celebrate, I’ll never forget it. I’m so happy the winning club have had a chance to make their own memories at Principality Stadium.”

As sponsors of Principality Stadium, Principality knows how much rugby means to communities and grassroots clubs across the country. The Society is continually looking for ways to support grassroots rugby clubs in Wales through any challenges they may face.
