The Greatest Pitch

The Greatest Pitch

Take a look at our video below and see why we believe grassroots rugby is so important to communities

Grassroots to Greatness

Three Welsh rugby players with a rugby ballLike our branches, grassroots rugby clubs play a vital role at the heart of the community, bringing everyone together to help nurture potential and inspire generations of legends.

Without them, we wouldn’t have seen so many greats produce so many iconic moments at the stadium we’re proud to sponsor. Which is why we’re passionate about preserving grassroots rugby now and for the future.

And from one community to another, we believe the answer is to stand together.

Helping Grassroots Grow

Over the coming months, we'll be working with our partners at the Welsh Rugby Union to find a club whose pitch is in real need of repair. We’ll then breathe new life into this old ground, making it somewhere the community and their young players can carry on thriving.

But we need your help to do it.

We’re asking local clubs up and down the country to come together, and each donate a part of their pitch which we’ll then use to help restore the pitch of a club in need to help create what we believe will be The Greatest Pitch in Wales.

All grounds have a great story, and by joining us, The Greatest Pitch will represent them all, using them as a foundation to show just how much grassroots rugby matters, and leave a legacy to inspire generations to come. And who knows, maybe we’ll be seeing them at Principality Stadium soon.

Greatest Pitch FAQs

If you have any questions about Greatest Pitch, have a look at our FAQs below.

Why should we donate our pitch?

We want to remind everyone how important grassroots clubs are, by highlighting all the great players and stories they’ve produced through the years. By donating, you’ll not only help keep a club and community alive, but show the whole country how much grassroots means, inspiring a new generation of potential Welsh legends to take up the game.

How do we donate our pitch?

Just complete our Greatest Pitch Donation Form and a Principality Building Society team member will be in touch soon to chat to you about collecting a part of your pitch.

How much pitch should we donate?

Our donation packs can take a piece as large as 20cm x 20cm, and it will need to be 15cm in depth to make sure you capture the root.

What happens to our donation?

Our goal is to use a part of your pitch – and all the great stories and spirit that go with it – to help restore the pitch of a club whose community really needs it, so please make sure your donation is of sufficient quality.

What happens when we’re done?

A Principality Building Society team member will be your point of contact throughout the project, but you can always stay updated via our website, social channels using #TheGreatestPitch, or popping into your local branch.

How can we get others involved?

We want this to be something the whole nation gets behind. So if you belong to or know anyone involved with a local club, please send them this website, direct them to #TheGreatestPitch on social, or ask them to pop into their local branch to find out more, and help show the world how passionate we are about keeping grassroots growing.

Which grassroots club are we helping?

We’re working in conjunction the Welsh Rugby Union to find a club that truly needs our help, and will announce which ground has been chosen during Wales’ final match at Principality Stadium on Saturday 14th March, 2020.

I've got my pack, what do I do now?

The pack comes with a prepaid envelope, so you can take it to your local post office.
